Die Friedhofsentwicklungsplanung soll sicherstellen, dass die Friedhöfe der Stadt Hannover mit den vielfältigen oben genannten Funktionen auch weiterhin als Orte der Trauer und Begegnung sowie als kulturhistorisch bedeutsame Gartendenkmale erhalten und zukunftsweisend entwickelt werden können. Durch die Erarbeitung eines strategischen Konzepts soll die zukunftssichere Gestaltung der Friedhöfe gewährleistet werden und die Verbesserung der Flächenausnutzung verbunden mit der Optimierung und ggf. Neuordnung der Belegungsplanung, sowie eine Verbesserung des Grabartenangebots erreicht werden.
